May 17, 2008

Friday night was Kansas City Royals Night so the theme for the night was the Royals. The Bees wore KC jerseys and lots of Royals’ tickets, t-shirts, and autographed baseballs were given away. Here are a few snapshots from the night.

Don’t forget, tonight is Armed Forces Night at The Hive. Come out as we say thanks to all current and former service men and women. A pre-game ceremony will start at 6:15.

Also, tomorrow is Community Basket Day! The gates will open at 12:00 noon for the 2:00 game. Get here early to beat the crowd.

Babe Ruth at The Hive

May 14, 2008

No, “The Sultan of Swat” did not come back to life. Instead, the Burlington Babe Ruth will be playing some of their games at Community Field this spring and summer. Here are a few shots from a game on Wednesday.

Bad Weather Postpones Sunday

May 12, 2008

Sunday’s series finale with Beloit was postponed. Anyone who has a ticket for that game can exchange it for another home game this season.

Heavy rain and high winds prevented the game to be played. The strong winds resulted in downing a few small trees in the parking lot, pulling part of the infield tarp off the field, and pulling down the Mountain Dew sign on the scoreboard.

The Bees start a 4-game series tonight at 6:30 at Wisconsin. You can listen to all the action on 1490 KBUR or www.gobees.com.

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 11, 2008

The Bees would like to wish all mom’s a Happy Mother’s Day! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Despite the raining conditions Saturday night, a good crowd came out to The Hive to cheer on the Bees. A few snapshots from the night:

Dancing Bobby had some friends to dance with.

The birthday boy, Joey Staatsand his friends led everyone in the singing of Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

He also tied with Jason Taylor for most stolen bases (10). On the month, Ortiz scored 10 runs, hit 3 doubles, 2 triples, and collected 4 RBI batting in the leadoff spot.

For winning Player of the Month, Adrian will get a free dinner for two at The Drake on the Riverfront. Congratulations to Adrian!

Bees Head to Ft. Wayne

May 5, 2008

After losing 2-of-3 at Dayton, the Bees head to Ft. Wayne Monday to start a 3-game series with the Wizards. We return home Thursday to start a 4-game series with Beloit.

Make sure to head over to gobees.com to vote for The Drake Player of the Month for April. The three players to choose from are (stats through April 28th):

Adrian Ortiz, #6, Outfield
.361 Average, 35 Hits, 9 Runs, 4 RBI, 9 Stolen Bases in 23 games played.
Ortiz has been the leader at the plate for the Bees. He’s done exactly what a leadoff hitter is supposed to do; get on base for the middle of the lineup.

Edward Cegarra, #31, RHP
1-1 with 1 save, 1.93 ERA, 28 Strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched.
Cegarra has pitched very well for the Bees, both as a starter and reliever. He looks to be a key part of the rotation the rest of the year.

Anthony Bradley, #34, LHP
1-2, 0.56 ERA, 12 Strikeouts in 16.0 innings pitched.
Even though he has two losses, Bradley has pitched very well out of the bullpen so far. He should help the Bees close out games.
