For the second game in a row, first baseman Jase Turner drove in the Bees’ winning run in extra innings. Your Bees started off this 10-game home stand on the right foot, topping South Bend 2-1 in 10 innings.
Michael Thompson hit his eighth home run, and the Bees got superb pitching from starter Everett Teaford, Aaron Hartsock, and Tyler Chambliss.
It’s going to be a busy, action-packed day. I’m headed to the Burlington/West Burlington Chamber’s Small-Business Recognition Breakfast, where I’ll be accepting an award on behalf of our organization. Darven Kendall from Area Recyclers will be presenting Bees Baseball with a small-business recycling award. This is a meaningful honor for us, and our congratulations go out to the other businesses receiving the award: Drake Hardware & Software and Lips to Go (both Bees sponsors).
The rest of our staff would be joining me to accept this award, were it not for the fact that this is Honor Roll Day — that long-awaited, crazy day when we welcome 2,400 area students to The Hive. Game time is 11:30, which means we need to get cracking on getting the stadium ready, cooking all those hot dogs, and pouring all those soft drinks. This is our biggest school-day yet!
