Thanks to complete games from Matt Campbell and Harold Mozingo, the Bees swept Cedar Rapids in doubleheader action here at The Hive on Sunday afternoon.
It was the first professional complete game for each pitcher. Campbell struck out a career-high eight batters in the 5-3 game-one win, and Mozingo matched Campbell’s K total (also a personal career best) in the second game, retiring the final 14 Kernels he faced, and giving the Bees their league-best eighth shutout, 2-0.
This makes it three complete games in a row from the Bees starters. Mario Santiago went the distance in the Bees’ 4-3 loss to the Kernels on Saturday night, striking out a career-high seven batters.
The Bees and Kernels play another doubleheader tonight at 6: two games for just a buck on Dollar Monday. Right-hander Josh Cribb will start game one for the Bees, and Jim Wladyka makes his Bees debut as the starter in the second game.
We welcomed Wladyka (pronounced WAHD-ick-a) on Saturday, after Kansas City purchased his contract from the Atlantic City Surf in the independent Can-Am League. The right-handed New Jersey native played his college ball at St. John’s University and spent the last two seasons in the New York Mets organization.
