Sandberg and his Peoria Chiefs will be here the next couple days.
Maybe you were here when the Hall-of-Famer brought his team to The Hive the first week of the season. All eyes were on the popular Cubs great, and there was a lot of excitement in the (cold) air. Sandberg was gracious in handling the media’s questions and the fans’ autograph requests.
The Chiefs took both of those contests — the second and third games of Ryno’s managerial career — to start the season 3-0. They have played sub-.500 ball since. With a record of 30-32, the Chiefs are sitting in fifth place in the Midwest League’s Western Division. They were officially eliminated from playoff contention yesterday when they lost at Clinton, 8-6.
Your Bees, meanwhile, are 25-37, trying to shake off a seven-game losing streak. They’re sitting one spot behind Peoria in the standings of the eight-team Western Division.
These are the last two home games of the first half of the season, and this is your last chance to see Ryne Sandberg here in 2007. There will once again be a sparked excitement in the air, as we welcome one of the game’s all-time greats, and we hope you can be part of this. See you out here!
