Bees top Ryno’s Chiefs in front of big crowd

The ever-popular Ryne Sandberg (23) drew quite the crowd last night — more than 2,200 fans.

In pursuit of the Hall-of-Famer’s autograph, the fans came pouring through the gates in the early going, many sporting Cubs gear.

The Bees overcame a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Chiefs 6-5 last night. The win snaps the Bees’ seven-game losing streak, and it gives them their first home win against Peoria in nine tries, going back to 2005.

Brady Everett homered and doubled, raising his team-best average to .291. Kurt Mertins, whose .278 mark is second on the team, went 2-for-3 with a triple.

Ryan DiPietro, Aaron Hartsock, and Henry Barrera got the job done out of the bullpen. DiPietro (3-3) got the win, and Barrera notched his first save.

Tonight’s your last opportunity to see Ryne Sandberg here this season. It’s also our last home game until June 21, when we start a promotion-packed, four-game home stand against Cedar Rapids to open the second half.
