Bees nip Dragons for third-straight W

Fans get cooled down in the ever-popular “Wet Zone,” momentarily escaping yesterday afternoon’s scorching heat.

Despite being held to just three hits, your Bees treated the hometown crowd to their third straight win, 3-2 over Dayton.

The opportunistic Bees brought in a couple runs to erase a 2-1 deficit in the fifth inning. With one out, Jesus Soto singled and advanced to third on Derrick Robinson’s single to left. After Jeff Bianchi walked to load the bases, Soto scored on Joe Dickerson’s comebacker, and Robinson came around from second to score on an error when Dragons pitcher Anthony Gressick threw the ball away.

Blake Wood (1-1) went five innings to pick up his first win in five starts with the Bees. With two on in the ninth, Chris Hayes struck out the only batter he faced, recording the game’s final out and getting save No. 11.

Your Bees (25-23) have won seven of eight.

Dayton (24-25) has lost five of six.

The teams continue this series tonight at 7. It’s Kansas City Royals Night on Dollar Monday. You can come catch your Bees in the uniforms of their major league affiliate, and give yourself the chance to win some sweet prizes from the Royals — tickets, bobbleheads, t-shirts, caps, and other fun promotional items.
